WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Mr. Virgil Lee Sheppard, 66, of Winston-Salem, N.C., passed away Sunday, January 6, 2013, at Forsyth Medical Center.
Born June 2, 1946, in Holden, he was a son of the late John Ed Sr. and Bersheba Vance Sheppard. Also preceding him in death was a sister, Ellen Estep Blakenship, and brothers, Tom Estep, George Estep, Lewis Sheppard Sr., and John Ed Sheppard II
Mr. Sheppard served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He retired from Micro Fibers in Winston-Salem after 17 years of service. .
Survivors include his loving wife of 18 years, Rhonda Oldham Sheppard; two daughters, Renae (Greg) Pennington and Jenny (James) Belcher, both of Clearfork; one step-daughter, Ashley (Marc) Rainville of Tobaccoville, N.C.; two sisters, Betty Dulcie of Marianna, Elizabeth (Lee) Collins of Van; Mary Beth Woodall, and Mary Ann Collins; four grandsons; one great-grandson; cousin, Rhodes Vance, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, January 11, at J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Wallburg, N.C., with the Rev. Cliff Willis, Dean Bullins and Mat Dulcie officiating. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Gardens with Military Graveside Rites.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
