BETSY LAYNE - The Betsy Layne Ladycats dropped their second straight game on Monday, falling to Pikeville in a non-district game played at the Dome. Visiting Pikeville pulled away to beat the Ladycats 45-36.

Pikeville posted its third win in four outings, improving to 11-3.

Betsy Layne dropped to 9-7 after suffering the loss.

Pikeville shot 45.2 percent (14-of-31) from the field. The Lady Panthers were four-of-seven from 3-point range.

Pikeville was 13-of-24 (54.2 percent) from the free throw line.

Amber Sexton led a balanced Pikeville scoring effort with 13 points.

Rachel Potter narrowly missed both double figures and a double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

Sara Biery also scored nine points for the Lady Panthers.

Pikeville controlled the boards, outrebounding Betsy Layne 30-23.

Emma Looney and Savanna Nunemaker scored six points apiece for the Lady Panthers. Another contributing player, Emily Thacker, tossed in two points for the Pikeville girls’ basketball team.

The Ladycats struggled offensively, finishing 16-of-61 from the field. Betsy Layne was held scoreless from beyond the arc, finishing zero-for-eight.

Free throw shooting also hurt the Ladycats. Betsy Layne was four-of-21 from the foul line.

Paige Watkins paced Betsy Layne with a game-high 22 points. Watkins was the only Betsy Layne scorer to reach double figures. Brandy Morrow scored six points and T.J. Tackett tossed in four as Betsy Layne fell. Chloe Johnson and Kelsi Tackett chipped in two points apiece for the Ladycats.
