LOGAN – The annual report for Head Start is available at PRIDE Community Services. Head Start provides early child development services.

Last year, the program was funded for two hundred and fifty one (251) children and families. The program also serves one hundred and eight children and their families, in some capacity, in collaborated Pre-K classrooms. The program serves the entire geographical area of Logan County.

There are ten (10) Head Start classrooms and eleven (11) Logan County Board of Education collaborated classrooms.

Health screenings have been completed at all centers. According to the Health Services Manager screening deadlines for physical and dental exams met the 30 day time frame, with the exception of a small number of children. Children not screened may have been absent or parents say they had physicals, but didn’t send in the documentation.

Management staff has worked together with the Board of Education in order to complete the county’s 2011-2012 plans for providing a preschool experience for eligible children (Universal Pre-K).

It is also the intention of the county team in Logan to apply for universal status in the upcoming year, meaning agencies have been able to offer a slot for services to any child in the county that wants to participate in a preschool program. This is made available through experiences available in Head Start classrooms and public preschool classrooms.

The complete Head Start Program FY 2011-12 Annual Report is now available at PRIDE Community Services, Inc., 699 East Stratton St., Logan, WV and on the agency’s website www.prideinlogan.com .
