Joshua Ervil Smith, 32, of Phelps, Ky., passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at the Williamson Memorial Hospital.

A son of Mickey James Smith of Phelps, KY and Debbie Griffith (John) Boatner of Knoxville, Tenn., Joshua was born March 4, 1980, in South Williamson, Ky.

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Irene Szabo Griffith and Thomas Griffith; and his paternal grandfather James Ervil Smith.

Josh was a loving husband, son, father, and brother with a big heart who enjoyed his family and friends. He was a coal miner having worked for Alpha Natural Resources.

He is survived by wife, Brandy Lee Dotson Smith of Phelps, Ky.; daughters, Breanna LaShae and Haleigh Jaide Smith both of Phelps, Ky.; and sister Trisha Anne (Glenn) Smith Akers of Pikeville, Ky.; paternal grandmother Anna Marie Smith (Otto) Chapman of Phelps, Ky.; mother and father-in-law Darlene and J.D. Dotson of Edgarton; grandmother-in-law Eunice Gooslin; sister-in-law Jessica Lynn (Kyle) Hardin of Phelps, Ky.; and nephews Gavin James Akers and Kyler Gage Hardin.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday January 13, at 1 p.m. at Chambers Funeral Services Chapel with Bro. Shawn Gooslin and the Rev. Mike Smith officiating. Burial will follow at the Smith Family Cemetery at Smith Fork of Phelps, Ky., with family and friends serving as pallbearers. The family will begin receiving friends on Friday, January 11, and Saturday, January 12, at the funeral home chapel from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. with services nightly at 7 p.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chambers Funeral Services, Inc. of Matewan.
