MAN – The Tug Valley Panthers crushed the Man Hillbillies Wednesday night 82 to 49 in high school basketball action at the Man Fieldhouse.


Senior all-state candidates Mikey Newsome and Austin Brewer scored 20 and 15 points respectively to lead Tug Valley to the win. Senior Josh White added 10 points, while Hayden Sturgell scored eight and Corey Dillon six for the Panthers.


Brewer dished out seven assists for coach Garland “Rabbit” Thompson’s squad.


Tug Valley returns to action this weekend hosting Greater Beckley Christian on Friday and Ashland Paul Blazer on Saturday night.


John Keffer led Man with 16 points, while Jake Adkins added 13.


Tug Valley shot 31-64 from the field for 48 percent and connected on 5-12 3-pointers for 42 percent. The Panthers hit 15-21 at the foul line for 76 percent.


Man only made one 3-pointer in eight attempts and hit 16-65 from the floor for 25 percent. They were 16-21 at the charity stripe for 76 percent.


Tug Valley, ranked No. 5 in Class A, is now 5-1 on the season. Man dropped to 2-7 on the season.
