Joyce Colwell Trahan, 78, died Wednesday, Jan. 9 at her residence in Krypton.


She was born April 24, 1934 in Perry County, the daughter of the late Henry Colwell and the late Emma Colwell, and was also preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Trahan, and sister, Wanda Mae Bailey.


She was a member of the County Line Community Church, and was known for her love of people and her church. Joyce was an accomplished baker, whose candies and cakes blessed the lives of many, the proceeds from the sales of such going to her church and the work of the Gospel. Joyce was an accomplished business woman, coal miner’s daughter, and songbird of the Lord.


She is survived by her son, Michael Bryan Trahan of Chandler, Az.; daughter Lisa Gwinn Trahan of Krypton; brothers Lester Colwell of Louisville, Elvin Colwell of Santa Maria, Ca., and Donald Banks of Mt. Washington, Ky.; sisters Carey Ellen Cornish of Louisville and Della Hall of Lancaster, Ky.; grandchildren Joseph, Kandace and Krystal; three great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.


Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 2 p.m. at the Engle-Bowling Funeral Home of Hazard with Rev. Teddy Bailey and Rev. Larry Bailey officiating. The interment will follow in the Jeff Fugate Cemetery located at Trace. The visitation will be at the Engle-Bowling Funeral Home on Friday evening from 5 to 9 p.m.
