LOUISVILLE — Floyd County School Supt. Henry Webb announced Jan. 7 that the Floyd County Board of Education will be recognized during next month’s statewide school boards conference.

The board will receive recognition for meeting all 10 objectives of the Kentucky School Boards Association’s “Advancing Student Achievement for Proficiency” standards.

“Our board team has kids at the heart of every decision they make,” Webb said. “They’re committed to learning more and improving every aspect of our system for the kids of Floyd County. We’re fortunate to have them serving our district.”

According to a KSBA publication about the ASAP standards, “The intent of KSBA in developing this toolkit is to help district leadership teams implement student achievement strategies in a cooperative and collaborative manner. We believe that these strategies should be utilized for board team development and public service activities, not for confrontation or other negative purposes.”

These standards include the following:

• Adopting a new resolution that focuses on advancing student achievement

• Developing a monthly board agenda that ensures focus is on student achievement

• Following agenda designed to focus on student achievement

• Adopting or revising a board policy that focuses on student achievement

• Reviewing multiple data indicators of student achievement

• Implementing a policy requiring annual school councils reports at public meetings

• Hosting at least one event designed to communicate progress of students to the community

• Designing the District Improvement Plan to focus on student achievement

• Using student achievement data in making budgetary decisions

• Displaying student achievement data

The board will be recognized during KSBA’s annual conference, Feb. 22-24, at the Galt House East, in Louisville.
