LOGAN – On January 4, 2013, law enforcement was called to Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifting complaint.

Logan Police Department Officer M. E. Dickerson met with Wal-Mart Security officers who told him Shane Michael Butcher, 25, of Chapmanville, had entered the store, went to the automotive and stationary departments, selected several items from the shelves and concealed them on his person.

Butcher went to the front register area and stood in line and talked to someone. He then tried to exit the store without purchasing the items.

Butcher had a previous shoplifting conviction on December 18, 2012. He also had a grand larceny conviction stemming from another shoplifting incident on August 4, 2009, for which he was sentenced to a term of 22 months in the state penitentiary. He was released approximately a year ago.

Butcher was charged with shoplifting, third offense and was released under $7,500 bond.
