MALLORY — Two former Man High School athletes are again in newspaper headlines for a feat accomplished in 2012.

Ben McCoy, the former one man wrestling team for the Man High Hillbillies pinned his opponent Marlena and took singer Beyonce’s advice and “put a ring on it.”

On December 19, 2012, Marlena Frye McCoy, former softball state champion and All Stater, pitched a perfect game and knocked a grand slam home run by giving birth to a scrappy, determined little girl named Cali Nicole McCoy, going by the nickname “McFrunyon”.

Head coach Marwan Saleh and his assistants made a gutsy call in the bottom of the 9th month by calling for a C-section at 8:20 p.m. Cali weighed in at 7 pounds, 6 ounces and was 19.5 inches long.

As Cali was being wheeled down the hallway the massive crowd erupted into cheers and tears. Grandma Julia sprinted down the ramp to meet her new star.

Although suffering from lack of sleep and still moving a little slow, the winning family are all doing fine.

Cali’s rookie stats are:

Parents — Ben and Marlena McCoy of Mallory

Birthdate — December 19, 2012 at 8:20 p.m. at Logan Regional Medical Center

Body stats — 7 pounds, 6 ounces; 19.5 inches long

Grandparents — Mark and Missy McCoy of Amherstdale and Donald and Julia Frye of Kistler

Welcoming — a host of family and friends
