Garland Yates, 79, of Williamson, passed away Friday, January 18, 2013, in the Skilled Nursing Unit of the Appalachian Regional Hospital.


He was born January 7, 1934, in Pike County, Ky., to the late Willie and Nola A. Centers Yates.


He was also preceded in death by a brother, Bill Yates Jr.


He was formerly employeed at Justice Drive Inn and a member of Fifth Avenue Church of Christ, Williamson.


He is survived by three brothers, Franklin Yates of Williamson, Carl Yates of Williamson, and Joe Yates of Lexington, Ky.; three sisters, Jenny Cooper of Paris, Ky., Lorine Sesco of Pikeville, Ky., and Betty Sue Yates of Chicago, Il.; and a host of family and friends.


Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday January 24, at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home with Ronnie Ferrell officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Ky., with Dennis Paige, Jarred Belcher, Jerry Mounts, Max Mounts, Joey Carey and Rebel Carey serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Wednesday night at the funeral home with special singing at 7 p.m.
