MAN — The Man High School girls’ basketball team ran its record to 9-4 on the season with Thursday night’s impressive 67-51 win at home over new Class A sectional rival Tug Valley.

Summer Sword tossed in 27 points to lead the Lady Billies.

Morgan Conn and Taylor Whited also reached double digits in scoring with 14 and 10 points respectively.

Mika McCoy added nine and Jennifer Shull and Summer Combs had two each for Man.

Whitney Evans-Kirk led Tug Valley with 19 points. Amber Linville had 11.

Man led 15-12 after one quarter, 28-27 at the half and 47-44 after three. The Lady Billies outscored the Lady Panthers 20-9 in the fourth to blow the game open.

Man is scheduled to return to action on Monday at Class AAA county rival Logan. Tip time is 1 p.m. at Logan’s Willie Akers Arena. The Lady Billies lost to the Lady Cats 61-40 in the season opener at home.


Harts 44,

George Washington 43

The Harts Middle School boys’ basketball team improved to 9-4 overall and 8-2 in the Black Diamond Conference with a 44-43 win earlier in the week at George Washington Middle School.

Drew Williamson led the Lions with 13 points. Kyle Browning had 11, Caleb Ellis nine, C.J. Dalton six and Tristin Browning two. Williamson netted two 3-pointers on the night.

Harts was scheduled to play at Poca on Saturday.

Three high school basketball games were cancelled on Friday night due to snowy weather and bad road conditions.

The Logan High School boys’ basketball team was scheduled to host Belfry (Ky.) on Friday night at Logan’s King Coal Classic but Belfry called and cancelled.

Two King Coal Classic games were played instead of three as the Logan girls face Greenbrier East and the Tug Valley boys squared off with Greenbrier East.

No makeup date on the Logan-Belfry game was announced. The Cats (5-7) were slated to host Greenrbier East on Saturday night at the KCC as the tourney was scheduled to conclude. Also called off on Friday were the Greater Beckley Christian at Man boys’ game and the Chapmanville Regional and Tolsia boys’ games.
