PIPPA PASSES - The Alice Lloyd College women’s basketball team dropped a pair of Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC) games late last week. Alice Lloyd lost to both Asbury and Brescia. More on the recent games involving the Alice Lloyd women’s basketball team follows.
Asbury 82, Alice Lloyd 72: Asbury turned back a short-handed Alice Lloyd women’s women’s basketball on Thursday night, defeating the Lady Eagles 82-72 at Seabury Center in Wilmore.
Host Asbury led 41-36 at halftime.
Former Paintsville High School standout Laura Carroll led Asbury (16-7 overall, 5-3 KIAC) with a game-high 32 points.
Ariel Nickell paced Alice Lloyd with 24 points and a game-high 16 rebounds. Carla Booth added 22 points and five assists for the Lady Eagles.
Nickell and Asbury’s Trenia Barbee were ejected from the game with two minutes left to play. Both players were suspended for their team’s next two games.
Brescia 96, Alice Lloyd 83: Host Brescia pulled away to defeat Alice Lloyd 96-83 on Saturday in Owensboro.
In its first game without standout Ariel Nickell, Alice Lloyd struggled in the first half. Brescia led 46-29 at intermission.
Alice Lloyd, however, heated up in the second half.
In the second half, Alice Lloyd sophomore guard Carla Booth got hot from the floor to help the visiting team reduce the deficit to single digits. ALC cut deep into Brescia’s lead but was unable unable to complete the comeback.
Julie Whitfill led Brescia (13-7, 6-3 KIAC) with 24 points.
For ALC (13-9 overall, 7-4 KIAC), Booth, a Sheldon Clark High School graduate, scored a career-high 42 points. She added four rebounds and three assists for the Lady Eagles. Chelsea Brown chipped in with 12 points for Alice Lloyd in the loss.
