Kimberly Ann Terry Whited, age 50, of Martin, passed away at the University of Kentucky on Jan. 29, at 5:30 pm., surrounded by all five of her brothers and sisters, her niece, Crystal, and her longtime friend, Lois, as she sadly left this precious world to be with our Savior, Jesus Christ. Kim was loved by many and, in return, she also loved them.
Kim was born in Hindman, on Feb. 17, 1962, to Samuel Robert and Donna Sue Combs Terry. After the first few years of her life in Knott County, her family moved to Martin, and this is what Kim always called home. She loved this little town and the people that lived here. She attended grade school at Martin Elementary, where she was a cheerleader and valedictorian of her class. She graduated from Allen Central High School where she played a clarinet in the band and loved high school so very much, as she loved her friends. She then attended the University of Kentucky for a short time, returning to Martin to work for Dr. Chandra Varia. Here is where Kim shined with her knowledge and the passion and kindness she showed her patients as she cared for them. Kim was devoted to her family and always smiled as she spoke of them.
Christmas time at the Terry’s house was always a special time. Sammy putting up lights outside, Donna baking and cooking and all the girls having their pictures made in their Christmas sweaters. Poor Bobby and Billy just had to put up with all the girls. Kim was an excellent cook and had been taught very well by her mother. Although Kim could cook, her favorite food was mac and cheese, had to be Kraft, in the blue box, with the powdered cheese. Kim always had that big beautiful smile and hearty laugh. She was always particular about the way she looked and we all know she had to be tan. She loved the sun and would lay in it for hours, with aluminum foil, baby oil and iodine and a fan at her feet to keep her cool, now that is a 1970s and 1980s moment. She also loved the tanning bed, as it was a lot easier. When Kim was around, there was never a dull moment. She was always positive, laughing and upbeat. All you can say is she was as beautiful on the inside, as she was on the out. As many of you here today come to support the family, just know that Kim loved each and every one of you. She was faithful, loving and giving to her family and friends.
Kim was preceded in death by her father, Samuel Robert Terry Sr., and she sadly missed him every day. Also, her grandparents Sheldon and Ora Combs, Bill and Norcie Terry and her step grandmother, Violet Terry.
Kim is survived by her mother, Donne Sue Combs Terry, of Pikeville, and her sisters and brothers, Sandra Lynn Terry May, of Martin, Angela Kaye Terry Wright, of Pikeville, Debra Sue Terry Conley (Ricky), of Lackey, Samuel Robert (Bobby) Terry Jr. (Christy), of Paintsville, and William Sheldon “Billy” Terry, of Martin.
She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, Crystal Lea Terry Akers (Bobby), of Prestonsburg, Shannon Dale Wright (Stephanie), of Allen, Lane Robert Terry and Jillian Christine Terry, of Paintsville, Jade Leanne Conley, Chyeanne Skye Conley and Sammi RaShae Conley, of Lackey; and step-niece and nephew, Tyra Paige Conley and Tyler Logan Conley. Kim is also survived by one great niece, Hailey Ann Akers, of Prestonsburg.
Kim leaves behind many other loving family members and a host of loving friends. She will be sadly missed by all and each of us can be assured she is watching over us with lots of love and peacefulness shining upon us. May God bless each of you for your kind words, loving thoughts and many prayers. The Terry family would like to thank all of you for everything you have ever done for Kim or for them during this very sad time but let us remember, Kim would want all of us to celebrate her life, not mourn her.
Funeral services for Kimberly Ann Terry Whited will be held at 7 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 2, in the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, in Martin.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., Friday, and Saturday, until the time of service.
