Members of Hemlock Hills Garden Club honored their president, Esther Hinchman, with a celebration of her 98th birthday at their January meeting. The event was held at Bruce McDonald Memorial Methodist Church in Man.

Since joining the club in 1963, Mrs. Hinchman has been actively involved in all aspects of the organization, including serving seven two-year terms as club president. She has also held office on the Logan Garden Council, and served on the boards of directors of the West Virginia Garden Club and the South Atlantic Regional Garden Club. She was a tour leader at the West Virginia Wildflower Pilgrimage at Blackwater Falls State Park for 19 years and was instrumental in starting the Sue Browning Nature Walk held annually at Chief Logan State Park. She has been the recipient of numerous garden club honors, including the West Virginia Garden Club’s prestigious Virginia C. Mabley award for outstanding service.

The program for the club’s January meeting was “Preserving Our Memories” and consisted of a make and take workshop on making keepsake photo albums. The activity was conducted by club vice-president Freda Napier.

Refreshments were served by hostesses Gertie Moore and Peggy Mosley.

The club will hold their next meeting on Wednesday, February 6. Cookie Pruitt and Patty Roach will serve as hostesses.
