CHAPMANVILLE — It was a nice way to end play in the Black Diamond Conference schedule for the Chapmanville Middle School girls’ basketball team.
The Lady Tigers picked up a pair of wins this week with a 31-22 win at Hamlin on Thursday and a 41-24 victory at home over Harts Middle School on Monday night.
A late fourth quarter run lifted the Lady Tigers to the win over Hamlin.
Lexi Martin led the way with 15 points for CMS. Hollie Carter followed with eight points. Abigail Marcum had six points and Richelle Thompson added two.
“We played like we were asleep for three and a half quarters before finally getting a few shots to fall,” CMS coach Tommy Kirk said. “We couldn’t shoot and we couldn’t hold onto the ball or make a pass. The only good thing about the game was getting the win.”
In the victory over Harts, Carter paced the Lady Tigers with a 12-point effort. Marcum had 10, Martin eight, Taylor Manns six, Thompson three and Alyson Bragg two.
Kara Browning led Harts with 18 points. Malloree Mullins added four and Randa Watts two.
“We played with a little more energy than we had in the past few games,” Kirk said. “We have had kids sick for the past month. I’m sure everyone else has the same problems but we can’t seem to get back in stride. Our conference tournament is coming up in a about a week or so. I hope we can use the next few days of practice to get back to playing with a little more spirit.”
The upcoming Black Diamond Conference Tournament consists of teams from Chapmanville, Man, Harts, Hamlin, Duval, Madison, Van, Poca, George Washington and Sherman.
Tournament play is scheduled to begin on Saturday, Feb. 9 at Harts.
