Logan County Magistrates Court has experienced a decrease in the number of criminal and civil cases, but a slight increase in misdemeanors since 2011.

Numbers compiled by the Logan County Magistrates Court do not reflect the total number of cases handled by the three magistrates since all do not result in an arrest.

In 2011, Logan had a total of 503 civil cases; 3,423 misdemeanor cases and 1,984 felony cases. The totals for 2012 are 405 civil; 3,667 misdemeanor and 1,016 felony cases.

Civil cases were down by 98, misdemeanors were up by 244 and felony cases had the biggest change, decreasing by 868

Logan County domestic violence numbers continue to rise. In 2010, there were 370, 2011 increased to 406 and 2012 came in at 499.

Logan’s 405 civil cases were nearly twice those in neighboring Boone and Mingo counties. In 2012, in at 1,795 and Mingo having 2,241 as compared to Logan’s 3,667.

Kanawha’s 10 magistrates had a total of 11,800 misdemeanor; 3,609 civil and 3,456 felony cases. Cabell County, with seven magistrates had 2,995 civil cases, 7,681 misdemeanor cases and 2,170 felony cases.

Lincoln County’s two magistrates processed 164 civil, 1,875 misdemeanor and 345 felony cases. With three magistrates, McDowell County had 180 civil, 2,736 misdemeanor and 774 felony cases.
