HI HAT - South Floyd claimed its first 58th District/Floyd County Conference win of the season on Thursday night (Jan. 31), defeating visiting Allen Central 47-40 at Raider Arena.

South Floyd used an 18-8 run in the fourth quarter to claim the win.

The Raiders, under the direction of first-year head coach Justin Holbrook, halted a six-game losing streak. With the win, South Floyd improved to 3-18.

The Rebels, who pulled away to beat South Floyd 54-39 when the two teams met on Dec. 7, 2012, suffered their fifth straight loss after notching back-to-back wins in early-January. Allen Central slipped to 5-16 following the loss.

Dakota Justice paced South Floyd with a double-double. Justice scored 20 points and pulled down 16 rebounds for the Raiders. He was the only South Floyd scorer to reach double figures.

After blanking visiting Allen Central 9-0 in the opening period, South Floyd faced slim deficits at the conclusion of the second and third quarters. Allen Central battled back to lead the Raiders 17-16 at halftime. The Rebels maintained an advantage at the end of third quarter, leading 32-29.

Tyler Daniels and Austin Salisbury added six points apiece for the Raiders. Austin Bailey and Weston Little were also active, scoring five points each for the South Floyd boys’ basketball team.

Michael Martin and Hunter Johnson rounded out the South Floyd scoring with four and three points, respectively.

Cameron Hamilton led Allen Central with a team-best 11 points. Hamilton was the only Allen Central scorer to reach double figures. Josh Wiley tossed in eight points and Dillon Lawson added six for the Rebels.

Devan Horn and Mason Nelson chipped in with five points apiece, Junior Handshoe scored three and Tyler Keens contributed two for Allen Central in the district/conference loss.

Allen Central rolled in the girls’ game between the two county rivals, defeating South Floyd 87-29.
