LICK CREEK - Prestonsburg knocked off another 15th Region rival on Wednesday night, upending host East Ridge 68-64. Sophomore guard Jarredd Jarrell paced Prestonsburg, scoring a game-high 30 points for the Blackcats.
Jarrell was one of three Prestonsburg players to reach double figures in the scoring column. Freshman forward Dalton Frasure scored 17 points and sophomore guard Jarrin Hall netted 10 for the Blackcats.
Prestonsburg led at the end of each quarter. The Blackcats started strong, outscoring East Ridge 22-9 in the opening quarter. Prestonsburg drained three 3-point field goals in the first period.
The Blackcats, under the guidance of head coach James DeRossett, packed a 40-27 lead into halftime. Remaining out in front after intermission, Prestonsburg survived a cold offensive stretch in the third quarter to lead 49-44 at the start of the fourth period.
Prestonsburg helped its cause at the free throw line, finishing 15-of-28.
Senior forward Bryson Williams narrowly missed double figures, netting nine points for Prestonsburg in the non-district win. Senior guard Aaron Foley rounded out the Prestonsburg scoring, exiting the contest with two points.
Sophomore guard Johnny Miller led East Ridge with a team-best 22 points. Miller was one of two East Ridge scorers to reach double figures, finishing with 10 points.
In all, East Ridge featured 10 different scorers. Patrick Coleman scored eight points and Michael Fields flipped in seven for the Warriors. Aiding the East Ridge offensive effort, Christian Hagy scored five points and Jacob Childers netted four.
Dillon Adkins, Austin Hylton, Caleb Skeens and Austin Rowe chipped in two points apiece for the Warriors in the loss.
East Ridge was five-of-eight from the free throw line in the setback.
