EASTERN - Five Allen Central scorers reached double figures on Friday night as the Lady Rebels beat 57th District and 15th Region contender Lawrence County 82-66 at J.E. Campbell Arena.
Allen Central defeated Lawrence County for its fourth straight win. The Lady Rebels remained in the win column two nights after outlasting Floyd County foe Betsy Layne in overtime.
Brooklyn Martin led Allen Central with a team-high 24 points. Hannah MacElhose scored 15 points, Sarah Rife and Alyssa Moore added 14 apiece and Krista Parsons pushed in 12 for the Lady Rebels.
Rife and Parsons recorded double-doubles, leading Allen Central on the boards with 14 and 13 rebounds, respectively.
Allen Central led Lawrence County at the end of each quarter. The Lady Rebels edged Lawrence County 15-13 in the first quarter and took a 31-27 lead into halftime.
Allen Central finished strong, outscoring Lawrence County 33-24 in the final quarter.
Elizabeth Prater scored two points and DeShea Elliott connected on a free throw for the Lady Rebels.
MacElhose led Allen Central from long-range, connecting on three 3-pointers.
Murray State University signee Taylor Porter paced Lawrence County with a game-high 29 points. Porter led a Lawrence County offensive effort that featured three scorers in double figures.
Martin drew the defensive assignment on Porter, an All-State candidate. She fared well, holding the hot-shooting Porter to just under 30 points while scoring 24 points of her own.
Allen Central has shown signs this season of being among the 15th Region’s top girls’ basketball teams. First-year head coach Derrick Newsome has guided Allen Central to a Floyd County Conference championship in his debut campaign. The number one seed in the upcoming 58th District Tournament, Allen Central went undefeated versus Floyd County competition in the regular-season, finishing the campaign 8-0. The Lady Rebels swept regular-season series from Betsy Layne, Piarist, Prestonsburg and South Floyd.
