BETSY LAYNE - The Betsy Layne Ladycats won in the opening game of a doubleheader at the Dome Friday night, defeating 58th District/Floyd County Conference foe Prestonsburg 54-32.

Betsy Layne improved to 12-11 overall and 6-2 in the 58th District/Floyd County Conference after posting the win.

Prestonsburg dropped to 6-19 overall and 4-4 in the district/conference following the loss.

Sophomore guard Brandy Morrow led Betsy Layne with a game-high 16 points. Senior guard Paige Watkins joined Morrow in double figures, adding 14 points for the Ladycats.

Betsy Layne owned a 10-point lead at the end of each of the first two quarters.

The Ladycats outscored Prestonsburg 14-4 in the opening quarter and carried a 25-15 lead into halftime.

Betsy Layne remained out in front in the second half. The Ladycats led 41-34 at the end of third quarter.

TJ Tackett tossed in eight points and Chloe Johnson added seven for the Ladycats.

Kelsi Tackett had four points, Emily Kidd three and Francescha Brunati two for Betsy Layne in the win.

Freshman guard Jackie Kidd led Prestonbsburg with 10 points. Kidd was the only Prestonsburg scorer to reach double figures. Narrowly missing double figures, freshman guard Tiffany Meadows netted nine points for the Lady Blackcats.

Shantele Collins scored six points, Allyson DeRossett netted three and Maddy Ousley chipped in two for Prestonsburg in the district/conference loss.
