ALLEN, Ky. – The Belfry Pirates improved to 12-7 (6-4 region, 3-1 district) by defeating Allen Central 75-64 Monday night.

Coach Randy Casey was playing without the services of Tony Messer, his big 6-5 low post threat, who missed the game because of an ankle injury.

However, Nick West stepped up for the Pirates scoring 20 points to pick up the slack. Brett Charles fired in 19 points and Sean Hurley added 15 for Belfry.

Cameron Johnson chipped in eight and Josh Robinson six for BHS.

“Tony has an ankle injury, but should be good to go by Friday. Everybody stepped up in his absence. Nick West was tremendous for us tonight,” Casey said.

“It was another good win. Everybody stepped up tonight and the JV got another win to go to 9-2. I also congratulate to our middle school team on winning the county championship,” Casey added.

Belfry shot 26-57 from the floor for 46 percent, including 7-16 behind the arc. Hurley had four 3-pointers. The Pirates were 16-26 at the free throw line for 62 percent. As a team they pulled down 31 rebounds, with Charles getting 11 and West 10. BHS only had six turnovers. Josh Robinson had five assists.
