Although the PRIDE spring cleanup is not until April, planning for the annual undertaking is already underway.

“In our region, spring means our landscape will soon burst into bloom and 25,000-plus volunteers will make sure no trash spoils the view,” said U.S. Rep. Hal Rogers, who co-founded PRIDE. “I ask for your help in paving the way for their success by preparing now for PRIDE Spring Cleanup Month in April.”

Floyd County PRIDE coordinator Ella Clay says the fiscal court will be providing supplies to those interested in taking part in this year’s cleanup. Those who want more details can contact Judge-Executive R.D. “Doc” Marshall’s office at (606) 886-9193.

There is also a series of planning meetings scheduled around Eastern Kentucky, including one in Prestonsburg. Big Sandy Area Development District will be hosting one of the meetings March 13, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The workshop will feature a free lunch and offer tips on reducing waste and recruiting volunteers.

The workshop is free, but advance registration is required by calling PRIDE at 888-577-4339 or emailing PRIDE@centertech.com.

Other meetings will take place at the following locations and dates:

· March 4, 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. ET, at Kentucky River Area Development District, 917 Perry Park Road, Hazard.

· March 7, 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. CT, at Roberta D. Cranmer Dining and Conference Center, Lindsey Wilson College, Columbia.
