NAUGATUCK – The Lady Panthers of Tug Valley pushed back the Lady Tide of Sherman 73-41 Thursday night at the TVHS gym.

Junior Hannah Armstrong flipped in 21 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead the way for Tug Valley. Senior point guard Adreana Vance fired in 14 points and had seven rebounds.

Whitney Evans-Kirk added 10 points and dished out six assists for coach Okey Smith’s team. Amber Linville, Katie Robinson and Briana Shrum scored six points each for TVHS.

Jordon Lewis led Sherman with 18 points, while Nikki Santonia added seven points.

“First I would like to congratulate Whitney Evans-Kirk on going over the 1,000 point mark during the first quarter tonight. Whitney has played through a lot of injuries this season but, she is a tough girl and I knew there was no way I was gonna keep her off the court on Senior Night,” said coach Smith. “She also stepped up and played the point for us some during the game when Adreana had to sit with foul problems. Amber Linville, our other senior also finished her regular season career for us tonight and she put up good numbers for us too.”

“I am not sure if anyone knows what the record is for blocked shots at Tug Valley but, I know she has had a bunch for us over the last four years. Hannah (Armstrong) continues her strong comeback from her injury and Adreana (Vance) had another fine game at the point for us tonight.”

Smith also praised the play of freshmen Katie Robinson, Emily Baisden and Cassidy Runyon.

“We will be back in the gym tomorrow getting ready for sectional play next week. The girls are excited about the tournament and I am excited about our chances of performing well during the tournament season,” Smith added.

Tug Valley finishes the regular season with a 13-8 record. They will play the winner of the Greater Beckley Christian at Montcalm game at 7:00 on Tuesday at home. Sherman finishes the regular season with a 8-13 record. They will begin sectional play on Monday playing Van at 7:00 at home.
