Aileen C. Hall, 85, of Hazard, died Monday, Feb. 18 in Lexington.

She was the daughter of the late Isaac S. Couch and Nancy Campbell Couch, and was also preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Hall; brother Stuart Couch; and grandson Dustin Duff.

She attended grade school at Combs Elementary, and upon turning 13 she and her family moved to Norfolk, Va., where she attended high school in Portsmouth, Va.

While in Norfolk, she went to work in a naval yard. There she studied to be a civil engineer. After World War II, she was dismissed form the ship yard and then moved back to Hazard, along with her family and brother, A.J. Couch. A.J. was in the Navy and afterward he became a federal marshall for the U.S. government. When they arrived home, their family and Stewart Couch had built them a beautiful, large brick home on Big Creek near Hazard.

Aileen met Floyd P. Hall at Citizens Bank in Hazard, and they were married on Jan. 1, 1948. After their marriage, Aileen went to work on May 19 as one of the first draftswomen of Kentucky at H.A. Spaulding in Hazard. She drew up the first map of Buckhorn Lake.

She was a member of Mtn. View Garden Club, Hazard Christian Church, and Beta Sigma Phi, and president of the Auxiliary Club for several years. She and her husband ran a very successful furniture business, Perry Furniture, for 52 years in Hazard.

Aileen’s first granddaughter was born in 1970, her name was Dawn Aileen Hall.

She is survived by her son, William “Billy” S. Hall and wife Jeanette of Hazard; daughter Nancy “Cissy” S. Nolasco and husband Joe of Lexington; grandchildren Dawn Aileen Hall, Jack H. Duff and wife Becky, Whitney Hall, and Wesley Hall; great-grandchildren Jackson Trent Labato and Kristen Duff; and special friends Paul Douglas Campbell and wife Sue.

Arrangements are being handled by Maggard Mountain View Chapel of Hazard, where the family will receive friends from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb 23. Services will follow at 1 p.m.. Interment will be at Camp Nelson Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hazard Christian Church and Hospice of the Bluegrass.
