Justin Marcum

West Virginia Delegate (D-Mingo)

The 2013 Regular Session is off to a start here in Charleston, and with it, a lot of important and new legislation. This year, as always, I am putting forth legislation that will better the citizens of Mingo and Logan County. This first week alone, I have sponsored fifteen bills in the House of Delegates and I plan to introduce many more.

One of the bills I’ve introduced will protect gun owners’ rights by modifying the process for obtaining a state license to carry a concealed deadly weapon. I believe it is important that responsible gun owners shouldn’t suffer if they themselves haven’t broken any laws.

Another important piece of legislation that I’m excited about is a bill that would increase the school dropout age from seventeen to eighteen. I believe that such an important decision shouldn’t be made at such a young age. By increasing the age, I hope those considering dropping out will learn the importance of an education and how important it is to have a high school diploma. This will put us in line with many of our sister states.

One more piece of legislation that I’m particularly excited about is a bill that would make health care providers furnish records to patients who request them for free once a year. This bill would help those seeking their medical records save time and money. It will also lower medical costs on my on my constituents.

This session, I will also introduce legislation that would create a commemorative Hatfield-McCoy license plate. This license plate would let my constituents show their support for such an important part of our state history. This plate would join the many other plates currently being offered by the state, including plates available for teachers and Friends of Coal.

These bills I have talked about are just some of the bills I have proposed. If you should have any questions or comments regarding any issues or bills before the legislature please feel free to contact me. Both Delegate H.K. White and I will continue to fight for southern West Virginia and we look forward to hearing from you.

To write me, my address is Delegate Justin Marcum, State Capitol, Building 1, Room 224-E, Charleston, WV 25305. Or you may call me at (304) 340-3126. I encourage all my constituents to remain active and become part of the legislative process.
