MAN — The town of Man has a new patrolman on the streets enforcing the law.

Joseph Daniel “Danny” Brown was sworn in Monday, Feb. 11, as the Man PD’s newest officer.

Brown is originally from Ohio, but has friends and family in Logan County and recently moved to the area seeking a better quality of life.

“I love it here,” said Brown. “I live in a very low-crime neighborhood and the cost of living here is a lot less extreme.”

Brown had been preparing for a career in law enforcement in Ohio when friends in Logan County convinced him to move to the area. His wife Melody (who looked on as he was sworn in by Mayor Jim Blevins) is the daughter of a local law enforcement officer who once worked for the Man Police Department. Many members of Brown’s family were present for the swearing in, including their son, Joseph, his step-daughter Marie and mother in-law Yante Ward.

Also present for the swearing in was Man Police Chief David Walls, who read the January report from his agency to councilmembers. Walls told The Logan Banner he had remembered being impressed with Brown’s application and noted that when he called his number in Ohio it had been disconnected.

“I then found he had already moved here, so I called him in for an interview,” Walls said.

Walls said it had been a fairly calm month in the town itself with no felony arrests being made in the town. Misdemeanor arrests were made in January by the Man Police Department for DUI, driving on a revoked license for DUI, driving on a suspended license, destruction of property, no insurance and obstructing officer charges. The Man Police Department also issued 10 citations on 18 charges, including no insurance, failure to maintain control, destruction of property, driving left of center, expired MVI, defective equipment, failure to stop at a sign and one speeding ticket among other moving violations. The Man Police Department also handled one automobile accident in January.
