CLENDININ – The Mingo Central Miners ended their regular season on a high note as they topped Herbert Hoover 74-52 on the road at Clendinin Thursday night.

Junior forward Alex Lee led the Miners with 21 points. He also pulled down six rebounds.

“Alex got us started early,” MCHS coach Brad Napier said. “He got some transition baskets and filled the lane.”

Senior Austin Banks had his usual steady game with 15 points, while Marqus Cunningham added 13. Banks also dished out seven assists seven rebounds and seven assists. Cunningham pulled down eight rebounds.

“We started off real well and got a lot of transition baskets,” Napier added. “Our defense was pretty good and we held them to 18 first half points.”

Napier admitted that the Huskies were playing without their best player, Cody Morris, who was nursing an ankle injury.

The Miners led 25-10 after the first quarter and 45 to 19 at the half.

Napier played 11 players in the first half and 10 players ended up getting into the scorebook.

Sam Schoolcraft led the Huskies with a game high 30 points.

Mingo Central (13-9) will now head into the sectional tournament being held at the Logan Memorial Fieldhouse. The Miners, the No. 3 seed, will take on the Scott Skyhawks. The two teams split their regular season games. Mingo recently defeated Scott at home 65-61 and lost to the Skyhawks at Madison back in December 62-61.
