Myrtle Bradley Hicks, 88 years of age, passed away Friday, Feb. 23, 2013, at Pikeville Medical Center.

Born Dec. 14, 1924, at Risner, she was the daughter of the late William Bradley and Dollie Flannery Bradley. She was a devoted homemakers and a member of the Holiness Unto the Lord Church, at David.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Birdie Hicks, on Dec. 1, 2009. She was also preceded in death by a son, Burnis Hicks; three brothers, Albert, Irvin and Ellis Bradley; and two sisters, Marie Arnett and Imogene Bauer.

Myrtle is survived by a son, Douglas Hicks and his wife, Gay, of Ivel; two daughters, Shirley Hicks, of Springfield, Tenn., and Susie Gotwald and her husband, Rick, of Franklin, Tenn.; a sister, Pearl Prater, of Leslie, Mich.; and four grandchildren, Lauren Gotwald, Adam Gotwald, Brandon Gotwald and Bradley Hicks. Also surviving is a very special person that Myrtle considered a son, David Bates.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 24, at Carter Funeral Home Chapel, with family and friends officiating. Burial was in Gethsemane Gardens, in Prestonsburg.

Serving as pallbearers were Adam Gotwald, Brad Hicks, Kevin Wright, Steve Wright, David Bates and Michael Lazar.

The family entrusted arrangements to the Carter Funeral Home.
