“The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2” — Despite having the most awkward title in this quintet of teen terror flicks, this turns out to be the best effort. The story continues to explore the love between a vampire boy and human girl, with a twist. Now, she is a vampire, too, and their baby is a little of both. This brings on the wrath of the vampire society who fly over from Eastern Europe for an epic battle. Definitely the most action-packed film in the whole series.

“The Master” — Paul Thomas Anderson (“Boogie Nights”) wrote and directed this drama about a war veteran who turns to a religious movement for comfort when he returns from service in World War I. The film benefits from an amazing cast that top lines Joaquin Phoenix and Phillip Seymour Hoffman.

“Chasing Mavericks” — Amazing surfing footage highlights this story of a boy who grows up around the surfing culture in California. The story charts the main character’s search for the monster waves referenced in the title, while exploring his relationships with a first love, a surfing guru and an alcoholic mother who needs her son to parent her. Touching and gnarly.

“Feaky Deaky” — Nobody saw this adaptation of Elmore Leonard’s crime story when it hit arthouse theaters, but now’s your chance. This is one of the better Leonard transfers and ranks up there with “Out of Sight” and “Get Shorty.” The story finds various criminal and wannabe scammers targeting the fortunes of a drugged out Hollywood type and a bizarre plot to bilk the guy out of his funds. Great stuff with plenty of humor thanks to director Charles Matthau (son of the late Walter Matthau). Crispin Glover steals it as the guy everyone is out to rob.
