WHITMAN, W.Va. — Linda Sue Adkins, 60, of Whitman, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2013, at her home surrounded by her family.

Born April 1, 1952, in Holden, she was a daughter of Mable L. Young of Whitman and the late Edsel Herman Young. Also preceding her in death was her brother, Edsel Bruce Young.

Linda was a 1970 graduate of Logan High School and a member of the No. 20 Whitman Community Church for more than 52 years. She was employed by the Logan County Schools as a secretary for 43 years. She served as Executive Secretary to Superintendents David Godby and Wilma Zigmond. Linda’s hobbies included singing in the church choir, numerous special groups, church cantatas, soloist, playing piano, painting crafts with her grandchildren and she was an animal lover.

Survivors include her husband, whom she married on February 8, 1973, Alan Dee Adkins; her children, Jeffrey (Tiffany) Adkins of Jacksonville, Fla., Alicia (Vester) Black of Bluefield, and Bruce Adkins of Whitman; grandchildren, Nicholas, Gregory, Jamison, Clayton, Evan, Hayden and Seth; sister, Joyce Patterson of Aurora, Ohio, and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 7, at No. 20 Whitman Community Church with the Rev. Joaquine Ooten officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

James Funeral Home of Aracoma is in charge of arrangements.
