A Mount Gay man walked out of Wal-Mart wearing boots he did not pay for and after West Virginia State Police troopers caught up with him on Saturday, the charges were stepped up to add possession of marijuana.
West Virginia State Police officers saw a silver Acura bearing Georgia registration driving in the Logan area on Saturday after they had received a call from Wal-Mart that a man had stolen items and fled in a similarly described vehicle.
The officers pulled the vehicle over and found Kevin Dale Workman, 20, sitting in the back seat. When they questioned Workman about the incident at Wal-Mart, he told the officers he had left the store in a pair of boots and failed to pay for them. Video surveillance evidence of the incident was obtained from Wal-Mart. The value of the boots was $29.47.
Workman told the officers he had a small bag of marijuana in his pocket. He was arrested and charged with shoplifting first offense and possession of marijuana more than 15 gms. Bond was set at $2,500.
