WHITMAN, W.Va. — Evelyn Brumfield, 82, of Whitman, went to sleep Monday, March 11, 2013, at her home and entered Heaven’s gates to be reunited with “the love of her life,” Dewey Brumfield, who she lost so many years ago in 1976, and her precious son, Larry Dale, in 2005.

Born August 4, 1930, at Latrobe, she was a daughter of the late Troud and Bessie Dowdy Clay. Also preceding her in death were her brothers, Elvin Clay and Woodrow Clay, and sister, Virginia Vance. She was the sole survivor of her family.

Evelyn was a member of the Central United Baptist Church and a retired and proud member of Logan Regional Medical Center’s Ladies Auxiliary. Our mother was our family “weather forecaster”. At the first drop of snow it was a contest to see who got her first call. She lived a life of sacrifice, always putting others ahead of herself, she was an excellent cook and everyone had to be fed if they walked through her door. We have many wonderful memories of her fun and great sense of humor which she still had even on her worst day. She has inspired in us a desire to serve the Lord where we will all meet again in Heaven some sweet day.

Survivors include five daughters, Dorothy (Millard “Bo”) Ellis of Logan, Sharon (Rusty) Bailey of Mill Creek, Tammy (Kenny) Adkins of Garretts Fork, and Melody Bryant and Ashley Brumfield (her adopted granddaughter), both of Whitman; two sons, Charles (Pam) Brumfield of Justice Addition and David (Melinda) Brumfield of Lake; her loyal and loving puppy, Buster, who will miss his “bed buddy”; 15 grandchildren, Angie (Todd) Berry of Charleston, Shanda (Eric) Amorena of Colorado, Jeremy Brumfield of Justice Addition, Brittany (Curt) Frye, Chris (Crystal) Ellis and Jamie (Candis) Ellis, all of Chapmanville, Jennifer (Rick) Roberts of McDowell, Gina Lendway and Deidra Brumfield, both of Huntington, Staci Bailey and Stephanie Akers, both of Mill Creek, Lexi Brumfield of Lake, Kenny (Amanda) Adkins of Teays Valley, Michael (Ashley) Adkins Harts, and Amanda Adkins of Verdunville; 14 great-grandchildren: Elisabeth, Sara, Chelsea, Joshua, Jacob, Presley, Maddy, Ian, Brayden, Haley, Laci, Cameron, Carson and Cade; sister-in-law, Juanita Clay of Chapmanville, and many nieces, nephews, friends and her church family.

A Celebration of Life will be held at noon Thursday, March 14, at Central United Baptist Church of Logan with Pastor Randy Skeens, Rev. Rocky Chafin and Rev. Drew Bledsoe officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband.

Friends may call on the family from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Jeremy Brumfield, Chris Ellis, Jamie Ellis, Kenny Adkins, Michael Adkins, Curt Frye and Dr. Todd Berry.

Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters.

Condolences may be left at www.honakerfuneralhome.org

Honaker Funeral Home of Logan is in charge of arrangements.

“Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies.” “Strength and honor are her clothing, and she shall rejoice in time to come. She openeth her mouth with wisdom, and in her tongue is the law of kindness. Her children arise up, and call her blessed. Favor is deceitful and beauty is vain, but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised” — Proverbs 31
