LEXINGTON - Two nights after rolling to a 16-5 win in five innings over Pikeville, Prestonsburg fell to another familiar foe. Lawrence County managed to edge 15th Region rival Prestonsburg 3-2 on Thursday in the Hits for Home Invitational at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in Lexington.
The Bulldogs secured an early lead and never trailed. Lawrence County out to a 3-0 lead.
The Bulldogs led 3-0 at the end of the second inning. Lawrence County hitters combined for eight hits versus Prestonsburg starting pitcher Jarrin Hall.
Lawrence County junior pitcher Joe Wallen worked four innings, registering four strikeouts, walking four and giving up two runs.
Austin Bailey pitched the final three innings and picked up the save.
Wallen and Corey Cline each went 2-for-3 at the plate for former 15th Region champion Lawrence County.
Wallen and senior Skylar Salyer each had a double for the Bulldogs.
Prestonsburg plated both of its runs in the fifth inning. Junior Grant Anderson and senior Bryson Williams, the top two hitters in the Prestonsburg batting order, each scored a run in the fifth inning.
Anderson and Trey Stapleton delivered a single apiece for the Blackcats.
