WEST WILLIAMSON — Two Pikeville, Ky. teens, who happen to be twin sisters, were taken into custody by officers with the Williamson Police Department (WPD) on charges of public intoxication, minor in possession of alcohol, obstructing an officer and fleeing.

According to the criminal complaints filed in Mingo County Magistrate Court by WPD Sgt. John Hall, Jr. and Patrolman Jarrod Marcum, Kelsie J. Sawyers and her twin, Chelsie A. Sawyers, 18, of Broadbottom Road, in Pikeville, Ky., were observed sitting on the sidewalk beside of the Phoenix Grill in West Williamson, along with another female who was in the process of vomiting. The officers stopped to see if their assistance was needed and upon exiting the cruiser, the twins are alleged to have started yelling at law enforcement, stating that everything is alright and they could leave.

The females were asked to provide identification after officers detected the smell of alcohol on their breath. The Sawyers’ teens told police their I.D. was located inside the vehicle they had brought to Williamson. What was believed to have been a trip to their Maroon Mazda to produce their driver’s license turned out to be a plan to leave the scene, as the teens hopped in the car and attempted to flee.

The defendants were placed under arrest and were arraigned before Magistrate Dee Sidebottom. They were released from custody after meeting the requirements and stipulations of their bail. The sisters are scheduled to appear in court at a later date for their preliminary hearings on these charges.
