CHAPMANVILLE, W.Va. — Mr. Willis M. Elkins, 67, of Chapmanville, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2013, at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington.
Born December 18, 1945 at Logan, he was a son of the late Taylor and Dixie Sheppard Elkins.
Mr. Elkins was a 1963 graduate of Logan High School, and a graduate of Marshall University. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Army where he served in the 3rd Armored Division in Germany as a Tank Platoon Commander. He later served in the Vietnam Conflict with the Military Advisor Corps in Vietnam and with the National Guard. During his military career he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, two Army Overseas Service Bars, Combat Infantrymans Badge, and the Bronze Star Medal. He served as the Nursing Home Administrator at Logan Park Care Center for 25 years before he retired from The Heritage at Bridgeport.
Also preceding him in death was his brother, Fred Elkins, and father-in-law, Levi Dotson.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Dotson Elkins; son, Michael (Geneva) Elkins of Manassas, Va.; daughter, Crystal Elkins of Fairfax, Va.; grandsons, Darren and Elliott Elkins, both of Manassas; sisters, Ruth (J.V.) Jolley of Cowpens, S.C., and Donna Boothe of Hilliard, Ohio; father and mother-in-law, Jarvey Brooks and Tressie Dotson Brooks of Chapmanville, and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 30, at Evans Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Rev. John Freeman and Rev. Bobby Adams officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Family members will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Hear Association and the Disabled American Veterans.
