GARRETT - Allen Central Middle School eighth-grader Steven Howard is emerging as one of the area’s top young pitchers. Howard pitched a no-hitter against Betsy Layne on Wednesday evening as the Rebels pulled away to beat the visiting Bobcats 8-1.

Betsy Layne scored its lone run on an error.

The Allen Central pitcher dominated opposing batters from Betsy Layne. Howard registered 13 strikeouts in the victory over the Bobcats. He walked the first batter then settled in and pitched very well. Helping his cause at the plate, Howard connected on a single.

Multiple Allen Central hitters helped the host team pull away. Matt Osborne belted a home run for the Rebels. Jesse Brown had a double and a triple for Allen Central in the win. John Turner also had a hit for the Allen Central Middle School baseball team.

Howard thrived in an impressive appearance for the Allen Central High School baseball team last week. Pitching in relief of Dustin Johnson, Howard closed out a game on the mound versus Phelps.
