BELFRY - After allowing three runs in the first inning, Prestonsburg battled back to beat 15th Region rival Belfry 8-4 on Saturday.
Prestonsburg exited the weekend 4-4. Belfry, following a win over Boyd County, carried a 1-3 record record out of Saturday.
Prestonsburg senior pitcher Adam Griffith earned the win. Sophomore Travis Powers came on to pitch in the seventh inning and earned the save for the Blackcats.
Belfry sophomore hurler Dustin Jewell suffered the loss.
The top three hitters in the Belfry batting order - Keaton Taylor, Reed Williamson and Zack Francisco - scored in the bottom half of the first inning. But Prestonsburg tightened up defensively. The Blackcats outscored Belfry 8-1 in the last six innings.
The bottom three hitters in the Prestonsburg batting order - Dalton Shepherd, Aaron Foley and J.D. Adams - all singled and scored in the third inning. Hunter Brown smacked a double, Adams reached base on a single and Jarrin Hall walked for Prestonsburg in the fourth inning. Brown, Adams and Hall all scored for the Blackcats in the fourth as Prestonsburg extended its lead out to a 6-3 advantage.
Adams had two singles for the Blackcats. Griffith, Shepherd, Foley, Grant Anderson and Trey Stapleton also had a hit for the Blackcats. Helping his pitching cause, Griffith smacked a double for Prestonsburg in the sixth inning.
Prestonsburg overcame four errors.
Belfry committed two errors in the loss.
In another game, Belfry defeated Boyd County 8-6. Boyd County, a winner over Prestonsburg, outhit Belfry 12-11 in the loss. The Lions, however, committed two errors.
