BELFRY - Prestonsburg dropped one of two games at Belfry on Saturday, falling to Boyd County. A 16th Region title contender, Boyd County scored three runs in the top half of the seventh inning to double up the Blackcats 6-3.
Boyd County junior pitcher Billy McCoy claimed the win. McCoy pitched into the seventh inning for the Lions. Senior Jason Anders entered the game for Boyd County in the seventh inning and recorded the save.
Boyd County scored first, manufacturing a pair of runs in the second inning. Prestonsburg scored once in the third inning and added another run in the fifth to tie the non-district game.
Boyd County moved back out in front with a run in the sixth inning before Prestonsburg answered with a run of its own during its plate appearance in the home half of the next-to-last frame.
After scoring three runs in the final inning, Boyd County limited the heart of the Prestonsburg batting order to clinch the win.
Cleanup hitter Jacob Barnwell, a sophomore, helped to pace Boyd County with two singles.
Junior Jacob Cook, the fifth-place hitter in the Boyd County batting order, belted a home run and scored two runs.
Sophomore Jarrin Hall went 4-for-4 for the Blackcats, finishing with four singles and one run.
Leadoff batter Grant Anderson, a junior, aided the Prestonsburg offensive effort with three singles and two runs.
Senior Bryson Williams, the number two hitter for Prestonsburg, added a pair of singles.
Senior pitcher J.D. Adams started on the mound and pitched into the seventh inning for the Blackcats. Fellow senior Cody Chaffin took over in the seventh inning and pitched out of a relief role for the Prestonsburg baseball team.
