The Chapmanville Middle School baseball team picked up its third win of the season last Saturday as the Tigers traveled to Hamlin and beat the host Bobcats 8-4 in a seven-inning contest.
Chris Bailey pitched four complete innings for the Tigers. The eighth-grade hurler struck out 11 Bobcat batters, allowing three hits, one walk and one hit batsman.
Joshua Zigmond came on in relief for the Tigers and pitched the final three innings. He allowed one hit and fanned eight batters.
“I just cannot say enough about these two kids,” CMS coach Dwight Dingess said. “Both work very hard and I am pleased at how well they are throwing this early in the season.”
Hunter Long paced Chapmanville with two singles. Bailey added a triple and two RBI’s. Zigmond contributed a double also with two RBI’s. Adam Vance and Chaseton Ghee both had singles on the night.
Ghee, Noah Dingess and Dylan Brown each had an RBI.
“We didn’t hit the ball as well as we can,” Coach Dingess said. “The field had a very short backstop and our kids just didn’t seem to settle in well. We will continue to keep working. I am excited to watch these kids grow.”
CMS is scheduled to be back in action on Thursday night at home against George Washington Middle School in a conference matchup. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m. at Ted Ellis Field.
