DELBARTON – The Lady Miners of Mingo Central lost a tough one at the hands of the visiting Lady Rebels of Tolsia on Thursday night.


Tolsia nipped Mingo Central 11-9 in high school softball action.


The game was tied 3-3 heading into the 6th inning. Tolsia scored two unearned runs to take a 5-3 lead.


Mingo Central tied the game at 5-5 in the bottom half of the 6th inning.


With two outs in the 7th inning, Tolsia took the lead 6-5 on an error. They plated another run on yet another error as the Lady Rebels went ahead 7-5.


Sheree VanHoose brought in two more runs for Tolsia with a base hit to make it 9-5. The visitors scored a couple of more runs to take a commanding 11-5 heading into the bottom of the 7th frame.


But, the Lady Miners did not give up. They battled back to score four runs and had runners in scoring position before getting their final out.


During the rally, Erin May got things started with a single. Kristyn Johnson smacked an RBI double and Kiearia Hammond cracked a triple to bring in two more runs.


But the rally fell short and the Lady Miners went home unhappy.


Hammond, a sophomore catcher, had a double and triple with three RBIs to lead the Lady Miners offense. Freshman Kara Lester also had a double and two RBIs, senior Katelyn Lester had a single, Chelsea Lambert a single and Johnson a double for coach Chad Lambert’s team.


Gina Cavins was the winning pitcher for Tolsia. Katelyn Lester took the loss for the Lady Miners in relief for her sister Kara.


The Lady Miners are scheduled to play at Belfry today at 6 p.m. (Friday) and Poca at 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
