Belfry Pirates outscore Betsy Layne

GOODY, Ky. – The Belfry Pirates outscored Betsy Layne 16-10 Thursday on a cool evening at the BHS field in Goody, Ky.
In the 1st inning Belfry’s Keaton Taylor had a lead-off single and then stole second. Taylor went to third on a passed ball and scored on another passed ball by catcher Dustin Tackett.
Reed Williamson walked and went to 2nd base on a wild pitch. He got to 3rd the base on a passed ball and scored on RBI grounder by Zack Francisco. Francisco got to 1st base on the error, then Joey Duty walked and Zac Fields had a RBI grounder to 1st. The Pirates led 4-0 after the 1st inning.
In the 2nd inning, Belfry’s Cameron Johnson led off with single to right field, then Madison Ghormley and Taylor both walked. Williamson walked with bases loaded to bring in another run. Francisco smacked a 2-run single to left center field. Duty was hit by a pitch, which loaded the bases. Eli Huddle was safe on error by the 3rd baseman, and two more runs scored.
Fields got hit by a pitch, which reloaded the bases for Sean Hurley. Hurley knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly to right field. Johnson was safe on error by the 1st baseman and another run scored. Taylor walked again with bases loaded to bring in another run. The Pirates led 12-0 after the rally was over.
Betsy Layne got three runs in the 3rd inning. Dustin Tackett was safe on catcher interference (Caleb Stanley), Chris Bias had a single to center, while Will West was safe on error by Williamson. Jonathan Brock then hit a grounder to bring in a run, while Fields made it to 3rd base. J. T. Hall then walked for the Bobcats and West scored on a wild pitch by Hurley.
In the Belfry half of the 4th inning, Caleb Stanley reached safely on an error by the 2nd baseman. He scored on an error by the catcher, who was trying to pick him off at 3rd base.
In the 5th inning, Betsy Layne got a single from Bias. West and Brock both reach base on errors, then Hall smacked a single to left field and got an RBI. Kannon Newsome was safe on error by the 2nd baseman and a run scored.
Dawson Lewis and Alex Meade both were hit by pitches, and Meade was credited with an RBI. Duty replaced Macky Francis as pitcher, and with one out, Tackett got an RBI via a sac fly. Bias then had an RBI single to left field, Brock walked to bring in a run and the Bobcats scored seven runs by the time the inning was over.
In the 6th inning, Belfry’s Hurley walked, but was retired at 2nd base on a fielder’s choice. Stanley walked, then Taylor struck out, Williamson walked and Z. Francisco smashed a 2-run double to right field to give Belfry some insurance runs.
