CHAPMANVILLE — A challenge to adults by the Chapmanville Archery Team brought out more than 50 shooters and their families to Chapmanville Middle School.


Coaches for the team are Tom and Rebecca Satterfield and Roger Wolfe.


According to Coach Tom Satterfield, the team is comprised of students in grades five through twelve and has about 60 members, mostly boys, but girls are being encouraged to participate.


Logan County Sheriff Sonya Porter participated in the competition and said,”I haven’t shot a bow in a long time, I would do better if we were shooting guns.”


It may have been a long time since she shot a bow, but Porter won in her category.


Medals and prizes were awarded to the winners: Elementary Division — up to 6th grade, Samuel Daugherty 241/300, Claudia Osborne 227/300; Middle School Division 7th-8th grade, no shooters; High School Division — 9th-12th, Fred Dingess 270/300, Tabitha McCormick 259/300; Adult Division — Doyt Williamson 252/300, Sonya Porter 214/300.

“Some of the team members shot their best score,” said Coach Satterfield, “They all did very well and I believe everyone enjoyed the competition.”


In addition to the entry fees, food and drinks were offered for sale. All proceeds will benefit the archery team. Local author and outdoorsman Bob Fala attended his event and several of his books were available for sale. The estimated amount to go to the team is about $500.
