CHAPMANVILLE — Funeral services have been set for long-time Chapmanville business woman Glenna Swim.


Swim, 96, died Sunday, March 31, at Logan Regional Medical Center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, at Evans Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Internment will be at Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.


Swim began her business legacy in the 1950s, when she formed a partnership with James “Jim” Ferrell and they opened J&G Variety Store which was located at the crossroads at Chapmanville. In the 1960s, Swim purchased her partners interest in the business and open R&G Variety Store, fondly known as “The Dime Store”, in a larger building in Chapmanville. Between the two stores, Swim owned and operated her businesses in Chapmanville for more than 40 years.


She is survived by two daughters, Madalyn Justice and Evelyn McCloud, both of Chapmanville; one brother, Charles Edward (Burgess) Peyton; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.


Visitation with the family will begin at 1 p.m.
