Shirley Martin Stumbo, 87, of Printer, passed away Sunday, April 7, 2013, at the Kingsbrook Family Care Center, in Ashland.
Shirley was born Aug. 29, 1925, to the late Jones and Maudie Gearheart Martin, of Eastern. She had worked at the Elkhorn Coal Company Store at Garrett as a teenager and was the postal clerk at the Printer Post Office during the 1960s and 1970s. She was a 64-year member of the Salisbury United Methodist Church, where she had served as treasurer and Sunday School teacher. She touched many lives because of her teaching and living a Christian life.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Jack Stumbo, in 1994.
She is survived by her daughter, Joan (Bryan) Flanery, of Ashland; two granddaughters, Kimberly Ann Flanery, of Monmouth Beach, N.J., and Sarabeth (David) Carpenter, of Indianapolis, Ind.; and a great-grandson, Jackson Ezekiel “Zeke” Carpenter, of Indianapolis. Other survivors include a brother, Robert (Lois) Martin, of Eastern; three nieces, Vicki (Toby) Orme and Robin Ballman, of Columbus, Ind., and Betty (Charles) Luxmore, of Winchester; a double-first cousin and former brother-in-law, William Martin, of Printer; and a dear lifelong friend, Pauline Ousley, of Langley.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 10, at Hall Funeral Home, in Martin, with the Rev. Bobby Lawson presiding. Burial will be in Davidson Memorial Gardens, at Ivel.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home.
