BETSY LAYNE - The Betsy Layne Ladycats picked up a key 58th District/Floyd County Conference win on Tuesday, edging visiting Prestonsburg 6-5.

Betsy Layne, under the tutelage of first-year head coach Kelly Boles, improved to 3-4 overall and evened its 58th District/Floyd County Conference record to 1-1. The Ladycats stopped a two-game losing skid, returning to the win column for the first time since March 28.

Prestonsburg dropped to 4-8 overall and 1-1 in the district as a result of the loss. The Lady Blackcats suffered their third straight loss.

Betsy Layne sophomore pitcher Brandy Morrow earned the win.

Prestonsburg junior pitcher Haley Howell was stuck with the tough loss.

Each team got going offensively early, plating three runs apiece in the first inning.

Kennedy Bias delivered a big hit for Betsy Layne in the bottom half of the first inning when she connected on a three-run home run.

Eddi Akers added a two-run triple for Betsy Layne in the bottom half of the fifth inning.

Betsy Layne is scheduled to visit Prestonsburg May 7 for another district/conference game at StoneCrest Park.
