The March of Dimes March for Babies Committee is actively making plans for the upcoming walk to be held on Sunday, April 21 at the Hazard Daniel Field.
The March of Dimes will celebrate its 75th Anniversary this year and its ongoing work to help all babies get a healthy start in life. About 4 million babies are born in the United States each year, and the March of Dimes has helped each and every one through research, education, vaccines, and breakthroughs. The March of Dimes plans a year-long celebration which began January 30th to honor its founder, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who was born on that day. Affected by polio himself, FDR established the Foundation in 1938 to “lead, direct and unify” the fight against polio.
Pre-registration for the walk in Hazard begins at 1 p.m. and the walk begins at 2 p.m. Each year, many volunteers give their time and talents to help ensure the success of the walk. Making an event of this size successful year after year takes dedication and hard work from those who serve on the March for Babies Committee. Thanks to the dedication and hard work of this committee, the March of Dimes will succeed in their fight to give more babies a healthy start in life. The committee hopes that the March of Dimes March for Babies will generate community awareness in the matter of birth defects and infant mortality.
This year’s Kentucky River Region March for Babies Ambassador Families are Crystal and Justin Ritchie and their son, Jonah Keston Ritchie from Mousie, Kentucky, and Jenna and Woodrow Hughes and their son, Aeden Hughes from Hazard. The families hope that through this endeavor they can help further raise public awareness about the impact the March of Dimes has on the survival of premature infants.
The March of Dimes will be holding Bank Day on April 19 at Peoples Bank & Trust located on Main Street beginning at 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All team captains are encouraged to turn in their money on Bank Day and pick up their incentives. Bank Day is sponsored by ARH.
The annual March for Babies sponsored by Peoples Bank & Trust Company will begin at the Hazard Daniel Field and walkers will proceed around the bypass to the Burger King intersection and back. Activities will begin around 12:30 p.m., so come early. Participation in March for Babies will provide a memorable and rewarding day for the whole family including music, games, face painting and more.
March for Babies is the largest fundraiser held by the March of Dimes. Funds raised through the efforts of team captains are critical to support research and programs. With your help, we can continue our successful fight to save babies lives.
