DAVIN, W.Va. — Loren Burton Cogar, 91, of Davin, departed this life Saturday, April 13, 2013, at Logan Regional Medical Center.
Born May 25, 1921, at Paint Creek, he was a son of the late Loren Ballard and Anna Wriston Cogar. Also preceding him in death were two sisters, Ruth Cogar and Arvada Hypes, and two brothers, Leo Nash Cogar and Lowell Eugene Cogar.
Burt was an Army veteran of World War II who participated in the Normandy invasion. He retired from Amherst Coal Company after more than 25 years of service. Burt enjoyed hunting and being outdoors. He was a member of the Mallory Church of God. Burt loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 69 years, Helen McClung Cogar; two sons, Lowell Burton (Betty) Cogar of Daniels and Noel D. (Janice) Cogar of Davin; one daughter, Pamela (Danny) Gibson of Davin; six grandchildren, Bridgette (John) Moelter of Seoul, Korea, John (Christina) Cogar of Daniels, Amy (Ty) Cook of Combs Addition, Noel Jr. (Lori) Cogar of Oceana, Loren R. (Clint) Adkins of Hurricane, and Megan (Chris) Berry of Charleston; 16 great-grandchildren, Chase Cogar, Brooke Cogar, Anthony Cogar, Hannah Cogar, Christopher Cogar, Madelyn Cogar, Joseph Moelter, Samuel Moelter, Benjamin Moelter, Matthew Moelter, Jordan Cogar, Justin Cogar, Jaxon Cogar, Baylee Jo Cook, Sydney Adkins, and Mia Adkins, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be held at noon Wednesday, April 17, at the Mallory Church of God with Rev. Shaun Walker officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby with Military Graveside Rites conducted by VFW Post 6153 and the American Legion Post 103 of Chapmanville and the DAV Post 39 of Harts.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons.
