HOLDEN, W.Va. — Hulett Tracy Butcher, 91 of Holden, passed away Saturday, April 13, 2013, at the V.A. Medical Center in Huntington.

Born December 1, 1921, at Shively, he was a son of the late Tom E. and Anna Blair Butcher. Also preceding him in death was his beloved wife of 64 years, Lucretia Gilman Butcher; four sisters, Bonnie Rollins, Dicie Frazier, Betty Griffith and Sylvia Butcher, and three brothers, Melvin Butcher, Willard Butcher and Jimmy Butcher.

Hulett worked for more than 42 years in the coal mining industry and retired as a Mine Superintendent. His work ethic and philosophy was characterized by his expression “That you get to go to work each day”. He was an avid hunter and fisherman for most of his life. In addition, he enjoyed traveling with his wife on cruises to see the world. Being raised on a farm, Hulett learned the value of hard work at an early age. He continued to farm most of his life.

He was a veteran serving with the U.S. Air Corp during World War II and was stationed in Foggia, Italy. He was also a 50 year Mason, a member of Aracoma Lodge No. 99 AF&AM and a Kentucky Colonel.

Survivors include three sons, Karl (Dora) Butcher of Huntington, David (Elizabeth) Butcher of Chapmanville, and Hulett Jr. (Lynne) Butcher of Holden; one sister, Anna Mae Butcher of Shively; 11 grandchildren;13 great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews who loved “Uncle Hulett”.

A Celebration of Life for Hulett will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 18, at Honaker Funeral Home with Brother Albert Cable and members of the Old Regular Baptist Church conducting the service. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby with both Masonic and Military Graveside Rites.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Hulett’s grandsons and great-grandchildren.
