ALLEN - The Brandon Kinzer Motorsports team opened its 2013 campaign on Saturday at 201 Speedway in Sitka. The weekly Dirt Late Model show drew a strong field of cars and drivers, all of whom were gunning for the $1,500 top prize. Kinzer, who was aboard his new No. 18 MB Customs/Gaerte entry, timed in second-fastest during qualifying and later took the win in his heat race. After starting the 25-lap race from the outside of the front row, Kinzer battled for the lead in the early stages of the race before winding up third in the final rundown behind only winner Josh McGuire and runner-up Rod Conley.
Kinzer and his No. 18 Dirt Late Model team made a number of changes to their racing program during the offseason, not the least of which includes a switch to MB Customs racecars and Gaerte Engines.
Kinzer will be back in Johnson County on Thursday night for Ray Cook’s Spring Nationals Series’ event at 201 Speedway. The following night will see the Kinzer Motorsports team in action at Boyd’s Speedway in Ringgold, Georgia, as the Southern Regional Racing Series (SRRS) will preside over a $3,000-to-win event Friday.
“The new MB cars have been at our shop for awhile now, but we were just waiting on motors,” Kinzer commented, prior to his team’s season-opener. “I finally got a Gaerte powerplant in here. We actually tested the other day with a spec motor in the car and I was very pleased with the results. I haven’t driven anything in a long, long time - maybe ever - that steered as good as that MB Customs car. That really has me pumped for the season.”
Kinzer tested at 201 Speedway last week.
