NAUGATUCK – Tug Valley swept a doubleheader from visiting Tolsia on Monday evening 9-8 and 13-9 at the TVHS field.

In the first game, the Panthers trailed 8-7 heading into the bottom of the 7th inning. That’s when senior first baseman Jordon Mounts smacked a game winning single to bring in a pair of runs as Tug Valley came from behind to win 9-8.

Tug Valley only had four hits in the game, but took advantage of several walks and errors by the Rebels. Josh Cassell had a pair of hits for the Panthers, Tyler Lucas had a base hit and Mounts got his only hit to win the game.

Mounts was also credited with the win as he came into the game in relief in the top of the 7th. Ricky Dean took the loss for Tolsia.

In the nightcap, Mounts started the game on the mound, but suffered an arm injury and had to be replaced. Mikey Newsome took over as the hurler for the rest of the game. Newsome picked up the win. Zack Perry took the loss for the Rebels.

Newsome helped his own cause with a pair of hits, two RBIs and he scored three runs. The other Panther hits came from Lucas, Trevin Horn, Ethan Hager and Aaron Muncy. David Runyon, Josh Spry and Phillip Lucas each scored two runs to help TVHS pull out the victory.

Tolsia banged out eight hits, but once again walks and errors plagued the Rebels.

Tug Valley scored eight runs in the 3rd inning and five in the bottom of the 6th to take the lead for good. Coach Jeff Varney’s team was scheduled to host Cross Lanes Christian on Tuesday.
